Development Project of the olive oil sector for small farmers

In partnership with the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), the Agricultural Development Agency will organize on November 9, 2016, a side event focused on the "Development Project the olive oil sector "in favor of small farmers.

This project, which is in line with a program financed by an IDB loan for 10 pillars projects in five regions of the Kingdom of Morocco, aims to plant 1,800 ha of olive trees, develop hydro-agriculture on 136 km and build roads for the opening up of production areas on 49 km.

Targeting 8,200 farmers, this project is considered a major development hub of the sector in rural areas and in the concerned regions.

At the structural level, the project involves the construction and launch of 18 units of olive oil production in accordance with the technical, environmental and health standards.

The overall objective of this event is, first, to raise the awareness of all partners and stakeholders at all levels of this project and make them aware of its environmental benefits, with the purpose of mobilizing all resources and efforts necessary for its success. On the other hand, it will have to do with sharing the experience of Morocco in the field of adaptation to climate change in agriculture, with a focus on the olive oil sector.

Ultimately, this meeting will highlight the impact of the program components on adaptation to climate change, the need for good practices of weather risk management and the identification of the role of the olive sector, in particular population resilience to climate change.
