Bloomberg Announces Inaugural New Economy Gateway Africa in Morocco

Bloomberg Media today announced that the inaugural Bloomberg New Economy Gateway Africa conference, in partnership with the Kingdom of Morocco, will be held in Marrakesh in June 2023.

This event will bring together leaders from the private and public sectors to discuss the world’s most pressing issues and evaluate potential solutions in the context of local and regional priorities. These will include the impact of a slowing global economy, rising food and energy prices, supply-chain shocks, tightening financial conditions and the growing risk of distress among sovereign borrowers.

The plenary program in Morocco, which ranked No. 1 in Africa on the Climate Change Performance Index 2022, will reflect Bloomberg New Economy’s five editorial pillars — Finance, Commerce, Sustainability, Resilience, Security – and build on conversations at the annual Bloomberg New Economy Forum (the Forum) in Singapore this week.

“As we expand our New Economy gatherings to Africa, we look forward to broadening our conversations in Morocco – a major gateway for global trade and climate action,” said Michael R. Bloomberg, founder of Bloomberg. “Our event will put a special focus on sustainability and resilience, issues critical to the future of every country, and of special importance to King Mohammed VI. We expect our global community of business and government leaders will get a lot out of it.”

Representing the Prime Minister at the Forum was Mohcine Jazouli, Minister of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies, alongside the Moroccan Development and Export Agency “AMDIE” and a delegation from the Ministry.

“We are honored to be hosting the first Bloomberg New Economy Gateway to Africa in June 2023 in Morocco, showing the international recognition of the Kingdom’s regional and continental leadership under the vision of His Majesty the King Mohammed VI,” said Aziz Akhannouch, Prime Minister of Morocco. “Morocco has undertaken numerous reforms to improve its business environment, becoming a regional hub for international investment. Morocco is the ideal place to host the event as we lead regional initiatives and projects on sustainable development and decarbonized manufacturing.”
