Inauguration of netafim factory

As a world leader in precision irrigation, NETAFIM, a branch of Orbia's precision agriculture division, a multi-sector company present in over 110 countries, inaugurated a factory in Morocco on March 2nd 2023, in the presence of several ministers and ambassadors, as well as other important figures from the public and private sectors of agriculture in Morocco.

With a multi-million dollars investment, the factory located in the region of Kenitra, will eventually create 150 to 200 jobs and will have a 100% Moroccan production. The United Nations predicts that water scarcity could cost up to 14% of MENA's GDP by 2050. Unfortunately, this water shortage is already noticeable in Morocco, which is experiencing one of the worst droughts of the last 40 years, with agriculture consuming 80% of its water. The Moroccan government is aware of these challenges, and the transition to precision irrigation is an integral part of its "Green Generation" plan.

"This region desperately needs sustainable agricultural practices. The Netafim factory is built right in the heart of an agricultural area. The location will allow the green generation of farmers and smallholders to realize their ambition of benefiting from drip irrigation with readily available, local, and affordable materials," explains Gal Yarden, SVP, President of the EMEA Division at Netafim.

Present in Morocco for thirty years, Netafim promotes collaboration and supports the development of the local ecosystem, as reflected by its work with local agricultural organizations such as the National Institute of Agricultural Research (INRA) and the Agricultural and Veterinary Institute (IAV) in Agadir, for an effective deployment of drip irrigation.

"The opening of this factory is both the culmination of our thirty-year investment in the region and a gateway to future expansion. We are proud to support the "Green Generation" plan advocated by the government to realize the potential of Morocco's diverse and rich natural landscape and climate, with sustainable agricultural practices," explains Mr. Gaby Miodownick, CEO of Netafim.

Initially, the factory's production will be dedicated to the local market to quickly, efficiently, and agilely respond to the needs of the brand's producers and resellers. However, the ambition is to develop the activity throughout the entire African continent, out of Morocco.
